Travis

Travis. There's real movement in this name, and that makes perfect sense once you know where it comes from.

Travis has its roots in Old French, and it means crossing. As in, crossing a river, crossing a boundary, making your way from one side to the other. It was originally an occupational name, given to someone who collected tolls at a river crossing or a bridge. Someone who stood at the threshold between two worlds. There's something quietly adventurous in that image.

The name arrived in the English-speaking world in the 1600s and has been making its mark ever since. It really hit its stride in the 1990s, when it felt like the perfect name for someone confident, a little bold, and very much their own person. And that energy has never really left it.

You'll find the name Travis carried by some genuinely compelling people. Travis Barker, the drummer whose rhythm is almost impossible to ignore. Travis Tritt, whose voice helped define a generation of country music. And Travis Scott, one of the most influential names in modern music. Across genres, across eras, this name keeps showing up where the energy is.

Variations like Travers give it an older, more formal feel, but Travis, that version has its own confident stride.

People named Travis are often described as outgoing, determined, and someone others naturally gravitate toward. The kind of person who moves through the world with purpose. Which, when you think about it, fits perfectly for someone whose name literally means crossing.

If your name is Travis, you carry a name built for forward momentum.
