Calvin

The name Calvin. There's more to this name than most people realize, and if this is your name, I think you're going to enjoy this.

Calvin comes from France, rooted in Latin, and it traces back all the way to the 12th century. The original meaning is actually quite simple and surprisingly human. It means bald, or hairless. Now before you smile too quickly, hear me out, because what happened to this name over the centuries is genuinely remarkable.

In the 16th century, a theologian named John Calvin became one of the most influential thinkers in the Western world. His ideas shaped entire nations, changed the course of history, and his name carried such weight that parents began giving it to their sons as a mark of seriousness, of purpose, of someone who mattered. A name that started as a simple physical description became a name that meant something.

By the 1960s, Calvin was at the height of its popularity, and honestly, it has never really gone away. It remains moderately popular today, which means it's familiar without being common. A balance a lot of people quietly appreciate.

And then there are the Calvins who made the name shine in public life. Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States. Calvin Klein, who built one of the most iconic fashion brands in the world. Calvin Johnson, one of the most gifted wide receivers ever to play in the NFL. And perhaps most beloved of all, the imaginative, curious, wonderful Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes, a boy who reminded generations of readers to never stop asking questions.

Calvin's name day falls on May 27th. And those who carry this name are often described as confident, analytical, and beautifully independent. Someone who thinks for themselves and moves through the world with quiet intention.

That is a name with real history behind it.
