Affiliate disclosure

The short version. The product links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the shop pays yourname a small commission. It costs you nothing extra — you pay the same price you would have paid going there directly.

What an affiliate link actually is

It is an ordinary link to a shop with an identifier attached that says "this visitor came from yourname". Nothing more. It does not change the price, the product, the delivery, or anything else about your order.

Clicking one takes you to the shop's own website. From that point on you are their customer, not yourname's — they take your payment, they handle your order, and they are the ones you contact if something goes wrong with it.

Cookies and tracking

When you click through, the shop sets a cookie in your browser recording that yourname referred you. If you buy within that cookie's lifetime — commonly a few days to a month, depending on the shop — the sale is credited here.

That cookie belongs to the shop, not to this site, and yourname cannot read it. What comes back is a count: how many sales a link produced, and how much commission is owed. Not who you are, not what else you bought, not your name, address or payment details. Those never reach this site.

This site does keep its own record of which product links get clicked, so it can tell what people actually want. That record does not contain your IP address or your browser string in readable form — both are hashed with a salt that changes daily. The privacy page sets out exactly what is stored.

Who pays

Every product on this site comes from Zazzle, and yourname takes part in the Zazzle Ambassador programme. Zazzle pays a percentage of any sale that came through a link here. There are no other merchants and no other programmes.

yourname does not make the products, hold stock, set prices, take payment, or ship anything.

What this does not change

The name research is written independently of anything that can be sold beside it. No meaning, origin, or piece of a name's history on this site is shaped by what merchandise happens to be available for it. The products follow the names; the names never follow the products.

Nor is the product list ordered by commission. Where the site says a product is popular, that reflects what visitors actually click.
