Cheyenne

Your name is Cheyenne. And what a name it is. Cheyenne comes from the Great Plains of North America, rooted in the language of the Lakota Sioux people. It was their name for a neighboring nation, the Cheyenne people, one of the great tribes of the American West. The name itself carries a meaning that has always fascinated people. It roughly translates to "unintelligible speakers" or "people who speak a foreign language." Now, before you raise an eyebrow at that, think about what it really means. It simply means you were different. You spoke in a way others couldn't quite follow. And throughout history, the people who were hardest to categorize were usually the most remarkable. Cheyenne came into use as a given name in the 19th century, and it truly found its moment in the 1990s, when it blossomed in popularity across the United States. There was something about the sound of it, open and wide, like the landscape it comes from. And that spirit seems to follow the name. People named Cheyenne are so often described as freedom-loving and independent. There's a wildness to the name, in the best possible sense. An energy that doesn't like to be fenced in. In popular culture, Cheyenne has shown up in some wonderful places. Country legend George Strait wrote a song called Cheyenne. The name carries that same warmth in the hit series Yellowstone, where Cheyenne is a character full of grit and heart. And in the real world, actor Cheyenne Jackson has carried the name with real style and talent. It's a name tied to wide skies, open land, and people who forge their own path. That's the story of Cheyenne. And now you know it's yours.
