Skyler

Skyler. Hear how it lifts the air when you say it. Skyler means “scholar or scholar of the sky.” That is such a vivid blend, curiosity with imagination.

Skyler has Dutch and English roots, with Dutch connections through the surname tradition. Originally, it came from the Dutch “Schuyler,” a name associated with “scholar.” So your name carries the idea of learning, not in a distant way, but in a personal, everyday way.

It first appeared in the 19th century, when surnames often became given names in English-speaking places. That means Skyler has traveled through time, from family identity into an identity you can choose for yourself.

You may also see Skylar, Schuyler, or Skyler. And they are phonetically distinct enough that they feel like cousins of the same name, not just spelling differences. Each one keeps the sense of bright-minded independence.

Famous people have carried it too, like Skyler Gisondo and Skyler Samuels, and of course Skyler White from Breaking Bad. Whether you love the pop culture or not, it adds a familiar “I know that name” moment.

At its heart, Skyler fits the way creative, independent, expressive people move through the world. Like learning, but also looking up.
