Selah

Selah. Just the word itself invites a pause, as if your day has one small quiet room. Selah is a Hebrew name, rooted in an ancient biblical term that means “pause and reflect worshipfully.” So when you hear your name, you’re also hearing an invitation: stop, breathe, and let meaning land.

This name has that special kind of presence. It’s short, gentle in sound, and thoughtful in purpose. People often describe Selah as spiritual, intuitive, and reflective, like you naturally notice what’s beneath the surface.

And even though Selah is already uncommon and modern audiences are starting to love it more, it’s not new in spirit. It comes from deep, long-standing tradition. The name even appears 74 times in the Book of Psalms as a musical direction, which means it’s woven into how people listened and responded. Like a breath inside the music.

If you’ve ever felt like your name makes you a little different, here’s the warm truth: it makes you intentional. Selah says, “Be here. Look again. Remember what matters.”

You can also hear the name across a few spellings that still sound distinct: Selah, and Selha, each carrying that same reflective core.

And when you think of famous voices, Selah Marley and Selah Sue remind us the name belongs both to tradition and to artistry. Selah is not just a name. It’s a moment you carry.
