Paula

Paula. Soft on the surface, but don't let that fool you for even a moment.

Your name comes from the Latin, rooted in the Roman world, tracing all the way back to Paulus, a proud Roman family name. And its meaning? Small. Now before you move past that, sit with it for a second, because in the ancient world, that meaning was never about limitation. It was about being precise, concentrated, essential. The kind of presence that doesn't need to fill every room to be felt in it.

Paula has been a name since the Roman Empire, which means it has outlasted empires, languages, and centuries of change. That kind of staying power says something.

And the women who have carried this name? Remarkable. Paula Abdul, whose talent and energy shaped pop culture in a way an entire generation still remembers. Paula Patton, a magnetic and gifted actress. Paula Radcliffe, one of the greatest long distance runners in history. Women who were determined, strong willed, and completely unapologetic about who they were. The personality so often tied to the name Paula is exactly that: confident, driven, and quietly fierce.

Across the world, Paula travels beautifully. In Italian it becomes Paola, rich and musical. In other traditions, Paulina or Pauline, each carrying that same Latin core. One name, many voices, all connected.

January 26th is celebrated as the name day for Paula in many traditions. A day that belongs to you.

Paula. Ancient roots, remarkable company, and a meaning that has always been about quality, not quantity. That sounds just about right.
