Nia

Nia. Just say it once, and you can already feel the intention behind it. In Swahili, Nia means “purpose” or “intention.” That origin matters, because it turns your name into a little compass. It suggests not randomness, but direction. Not just doing things, but choosing why you do them. Nia is a name that has traveled with many ways of being pronounced on the page: Nea, Niah, and Nya. They sound meaningfully distinct when spoken, but they share that same beautiful center. In pop culture, you might recognize Nia from Nia Long, from Nia Jax, or from Nia DaCosta, and that visibility has helped make the name feel both confident and modern. And here’s a lovely extra thread: Nia is also a Welsh name associated with “brightness,” showing up in Celtic mythology. So whether your day-to-day is creative, compassionate, or simply determined, your name already tells a story about focus and inspiration.
