Milton

Milton. Now there is a name with real weight to it. Solid, classic, and carrying a story that goes back centuries. Milton is an Old English name, born in the Middle Ages, and its meaning is wonderfully grounded - it simply means mill town. A place where things were built, where the work of life actually happened. There is something honest about that. Something rooted. And names that come from the land, from real places and real work, tend to age very well. Milton had its golden era between the 1920s and 1940s, when it was a name you heard everywhere. Today it is less common, which honestly makes it even more distinctive. It is the kind of name that stands out in a room precisely because it is not trying to. And the company this name keeps is extraordinary. John Milton, one of the greatest poets in the English language, wrote Paradise Lost in 1667 - and his fame was so immense that the name Milton began spreading as a first name in his honor. Think about that. A name inspired by a poet. Then there is Milton Friedman, one of the most influential economists of the twentieth century. And Milton Berle, a man who made an entire generation laugh. The personalities drawn to this name tend to be intellectual, thoughtful, and disciplined. People who think before they speak, and mean what they say. Milton is uncommon but classic. And classic, by definition, never really goes out of style.
