Kailani

Kailani is a name with a horizon inside it. It means “sea and sky,” and it comes from Hawaiian, where words are often like landscapes you can step into.

The beauty here is in how the name is built. Kailani combines two powerful Hawaiian ideas: “kai,” meaning sea, and “lani,” meaning sky or heaven. So when someone says Kailani, they are speaking something expansive, something that invites both calm and wonder.

It’s also a name connected to a modern revival of Hawaiian identity. Kailani became known widely during the modern Hawaiian revival, which brings a sense of cultural renewal and pride. And today, it sits at a sweet spot, moderately popular, still feeling current without losing its special character.

You may also hear the shorter, distinct-sounding relatives Kai and Lani, or Kailanie. Those versions move through the same world, but Kailani itself feels fuller, like standing at the meeting point of water and daylight.

If people have described you as free-spirited, intuitive, and creative, listen closely. Those traits match the meaning. Kailani suggests you notice what others miss, and you let your imagination breathe. And when you think of the name in music, like “Kailani” by Kolohe Kai, it feels even more like a promise. Your name is sky-reaching and ocean-deep.
