Floyd

Floyd. What a strong, grounded name this is. Floyd comes from Wales, rooted in the old Welsh word that means gray-haired. Now, I know what you might be thinking - gray-haired? But stay with me, because in the ancient world, gray hair wasn't something you covered up or apologized for. It was a sign of wisdom. Of experience. Of someone who had lived, learned, and earned their place. That is the spirit baked right into this name from the very beginning.

Floyd started appearing as a given name in England as far back as the thirteenth century, and it actually began its life as a surname before people started giving it to their children. There is something special about that. A name that crossed over, that people loved enough to carry forward in a new way.

By the nineteen twenties, Floyd was genuinely popular. It had a confident, no-nonsense energy that fit the era perfectly. And honestly, that energy has never really left it.

When you think about famous Floyds, the list is remarkable. Floyd Mayweather and Floyd Patterson, two of the most celebrated boxers in history. Floyd Little, a football legend. These are men who showed up, competed at the highest level, and refused to back down. That tracks beautifully with what this name carries - confident, determined, strong-willed.

And then there is Pink Floyd, one of the most iconic bands ever to exist. The name Floyd has left fingerprints on music, on sport, on culture.

Floyd is rare today, which means if this is your name, you are carrying something genuinely one of a kind. Not everyone can say that.
