About the name Eddie

Eddie. Warm, friendly, full of life - and with a meaning that genuinely lives up to all of that.

Eddie comes from the Old English name Edward, and it carries a beautiful meaning: prosperous guardian. Think about those two words together. Prosperous - someone who flourishes, who brings abundance. Guardian - someone who protects, who watches over others. Eddie is the name of a person who lifts the people around them up.

The name has roots going back to the Middle Ages in England, and it has been a beloved short form of Edward ever since. But here is the thing about Eddie - it has never felt like just a nickname. It has always had its own personality. Its own warmth.

Eddie had a real golden moment in the 1950s, when it felt like every neighborhood had one. And even today it remains a common, well-loved name - the kind that sounds like someone you can trust, someone who makes a room feel easier to be in.

And the famous Eddies? Eddie Murphy, one of the most beloved entertainers in the world. Eddie Redmayne, an Academy Award-winning actor with tremendous range. And Eddie Van Halen - a man who quite literally changed the way the electric guitar was played. These are people who brought something genuinely new into the world.

Eddie is often associated with confidence and a spirit of adventure. Someone who moves through life with energy and warmth.

If Eddie is your name, it means you carry the spirit of a guardian and a trailblazer all at once. That is a beautiful thing to be named.
